GILLETTE, Wyo., December 6, 2013 — The Gillette Wild added a pair of goals in the third period to knock off the second place Great Falls Americans 4-2 on Friday night at the Campbell County Ice Arena in Wyoming. The win for the Wild put an end to the Americans nine game-winning streak.
Alex King was able to get the puck by Americans goaltender Evan Hauser with 8:05 left in the first period to give the Wild a 1-0 lead after the first intermission. Darren Banks and Will Fobair were each given assists on the play.
Dylan Garton scored one of his two goals in the second period off a power play early in the second period to tie the AWHL contest up at 1-1. Aaron McInnis and Cody Page set up the scoring drive for Garton. The Wild took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Greg Sauers before the end of the period. Gillette maintained a 26-21 advantage on shots-on-goal opportunities after the first 40 minutes of action.
Nick Mead added a goal for the Wyoming club seven minutes into the final period to increase the Wild lead to 3-1. Dylan Garton scored his second and the team’s final goal five minutes later with a pass from Aaron McInnis and Connor Barta. Gillette sealed the victory with an empty net goal by Dalton McCann with six seconds left in regulation.
Dylan Garton scored both goals for the Americans and brought his goal total to eleven for the season. Aaron McInnis assisted on both scoring drives for coach Jeff Heimel and is now the team leader in assists with 21. Greg Sauers led Gillette with a goal and an assist. Americans goalie, Evan Hauser stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced on the night. Michael Kitts tallied 31 saves for Gillette.
NEXT CONTEST: The Americans (18-6) will remain in Gillette, WY for a Saturday game (Dec. 7th) against the Gillette Wild (14-9-1). The Americans do not return to home ice until 2014 when they face the Billings Bulls on Saturday, January 11th.
