BILLINGS, Mont., February 1, 2014 — The fourth-ranked Billings Bulls jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage after two periods and hung on to give the second place Great Falls Americans only their eighth defeat of the season by the score of 4-2 on Saturday night at the Centennial Ice Garden in Billings.
TJ Theodosopoulos scored at the 15:14 mark of the first period to give Billings the lead with the assists going to Aaron Rio and Steven Thompson. Both teams recorded 9 shots on goal.
In the second period, Great Falls tied the contest on a power play goal from Austin Krantz, who now has eight on the season. The score came during the first three minutes of the second period and Tanner Doty and Lucas Stover each registered an assist. Billings would score twice before the end of the period as Tristen Heinrichs and Orri Haman each tallied a goal apiece in the final three minutes. Cody Phillips and Dexter Neal added the assists on Heinrich’s scoring drive and Nikolas Nasby dished off to Haman for the power play score.
A pass from TJ Thedodosopoulos and Tristen Heinrichs to Sam Orth put the Bulls up 4-1 within the first 27 seconds of the third period. Ricky Green scored his first goal of the season and the final goal of the evening for the Americans at the 13:02 mark. Cody Page and Doug Keller collected the assists.
The Americans went 1-for-7 on shot attempts on goal while Billings connected on two of their four opportunities. Despite the two point loss, the Americans did out-shoot the Bulls 34-32.
Both teams combined for 11 infractions with 22 minutes of penalty time. Evan Hauser added 28 saves while Billings goaltender Daniel Oordt was able to stop 32 shots on 34 attempts by Great Falls.
The Bulls are sitting in fourth place at 17-18-2 while Great Falls dropped to 29-8-2.
NEXT CONTEST: The Americans return to Billings to face the Bulls on Friday, February 7, 2014 for the second game of their month long road trip. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
