The Great Falls American’s we’re once a team that experienced losing more than anyone else in the American West League. Last year the team had a new leader take over on the ice, and thanks to a quick turnaround the Americans were voted the 2012-13 Organization of the Year in the AWHL. As we turn the corner into October and that means hockey season is fully underway. The Americans came into this season on a hot streak.
“It’s just great, I mean we’re 2-0 on the season so far, we just have to keep it going. We want to keep the win streak alive and stay undefeated as long as we can”, said Lucas Lomax, a Great Falls Americans Forward.
Their record is really fantastic when you consider the fact that they were just 1-48 in 2011 when Jeff Heimel took over the head coaching position.”You know when you come into a program like this you have to start somewhere, and it took a long time to find the right guys to build a foundation. Now we’re seeing the benefits of that hard work that we put into last season”, said American’s second season Head Coach, Jeff Heimel
One of the reasons for their early success (other than the obvious coaching change) is Lucas Lomax. He’s racked 2 goals and 2 assists so far putting himself at the top of the leader board.”He started off slow last season, but I’m impressed with him and I think he’ll be a huge impact player this year”, said Heimel.
The electric city will be able to see Heimel and company in action this Friday against Gillette, and Lomax he’s prepared for a physical battle.”It’s great to have everyone come out and support us, we work hard for the fans. I know Gillette will come out strong, but we are going to take it to them”, said Lomax
The game is slated for tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Iceplex in Great Falls.
