Americans continue to struggle against Helena

HELENA, Mont., November 6, 2013 — The Helena Bighorns handed the Great Falls Americans their third loss of the season in a 4-3 decision at the Helena Ice Arena on Wednesday night in the Capital City.

The Americans have played their last three of four AWHL contests against a tough Helena Bighorns team that have dealt the Great Falls franchise their only losses  of the season.

After both teams defenses refused to allow the other team to score in the first period, the Bighorns took advantage in the next period by scoring 4 goals. Jacob Wolter added two goals connecting on a power play opportunity 36 seconds into the period and finding the back of the net again with 1:18 left. Sebastian Hannson and John Bonta would each get the puck by Americans goaltender Erik Powell. Aaron McInnis recorded his 13th goal of the season with Lucas Lomax and Lucas Stover picking up assists.

Brady Christiaens and Lucas Stover each tallied points for Great Falls in the final period. Lucas Lomax was credited with an assist on both goals and assists also went to Connor Barta and Lucas Stover.

The Bighorns were led by Jacob Wolter’s with two goals and an assist while Great Falls received scores from Aaron McInnis, Brady Christiaens and Lucas Stover.  Lomax and Stover had five of the six assists for coach Jeff Heimel’s squad.

Erik Powell stopped 53 shots he faced for the Americans and Alek Lazarski registered 22 saves for the Helena squad. Both teams combined for 15 infractions for 30 minutes of penalty time on the evening.

Helena (12-1) continues to lead the Americans (11-3) as the top two teams battled it out in the American West Hockey League on Wednesday night.

NEXT CONTEST: The Great Falls Americans will look for their first victory against the Bighorns on Saturday night (November 9th) at the Great Falls Ice Plex beginning at 7:30PM.
