CODY, WY, November 24, 2013 — The Great Falls Americans looked for revenge on Sunday afternoon, a day after falling to Yellowstone (4-3) for the first time all season. Coach Jeff Heimel’s club was able to put up six goals including three in the second period to send the Yellowstone Quake to their twelfth loss of the season by posting a 6-3 victory over the Quake at the Victor J. Riley Arena.
Each team netted one goal apiece in the opening period. Sawyer Scanlan got the Quake out front first in the first 83 seconds with assistance from Jimmy Tich and Ross Mullen. The Yellowstone lead wouldn’t last long as Brady Christiaens got the puck by Quake goalie Rocco Yapello three minutes later to tie the contest.
Great Falls started out the middle period with goals by Zachary Mese and Lucas Lomax including a power play opportunity goal by Lomax with Erik Gatson and Steven Goran tacking on the assists. The Americans led 3-1 early before Yellowstone scored twice quickly in a two minute span to tie the contest up at 3-3. Aaron McInnis scored his eighteenth goal of the season for Great Falls before the second intermission.
Great Falls did not allow Yellowstone to find the back of the net in the third period. Great Falls’ Zachary Mese netted his second goal of the night and Erik Gatson scored on an empty net. Cody Page, Brady Christiaens and Aaron McInnis assisted on the two goals.
The defense of the Americans stopped Yellowstone from scoring on any of their six power play opportunities. Yellowstone goaltender Rocco Yapello was kept busy for most of the game but was able to stop 56 shot attempts. Erik Powell stopped 35 shots including 16 in the final period of action.
Leading the way for the Americans was Zachary Mese with two goals while Cody Page and Brady Christiaens helped with two assists apiece.
NEXT CONTEST: The Americans will take their 16-4 record back to the Great Falls Ice Plex at 7:30PM on Friday, November 29th when the Bozeman Ice Dogs come to town.
