GREAT FALLS, Mont., October 4, 2013 — The Great Falls Americans left off where they did last week as three different players scored goals and came away with a 3-0 victory over the Gillette (WY) Wild in front of 583 fans at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
Brady Christiaens opened up the first period with a power play goal seven minutes into the contest as he was able to get the puck past Gillette goaltender Sean Kelley. Zachary Mese and Max Kaercher provided the assists.
Craig Buford’s pass to Marvin Simmons provided the only goal midway through the second period. Great Falls had 13 of their 30 shots on goal during this period. The Americans allowed no goals on five Gillette power plays.
Lucas Stover recorded the final goal of the evening with 13 minutes remaining in the American West Hockey League tilt.
Everything went Great Falls’ way as goaltender Evan Hauser stopped every shot (37 saves) that came his way and the Wild were unable to stay out of the penalty box and they finished with 21 penalty minutes for three opposing power plays. The win gives Great Falls their second straight shutout of the season as they defeated the Glacier Nationals 8-0 in their previous game. Sean Kelley finished with 27 shots on goal for the Wyoming team.
The Great Falls Americans remain undefeated at 3-0 in the American West Hockey League while the Gillette Wild fall to 3-2.
NEXT CONTEST: Great Falls will host the Gillette Wild again on Saturday night (Oct. 5th) at 7:30PM at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
