GILLETTE, Wyo., January 4, 2014 — The Great Falls Americans earned a two game sweep over the Gillette Wild on Saturday night after posting a 3-0 shutout over the Wild at the Campbell County Ice Arena. The Americans scored once in all three periods to run their record to 23-6-1 on the season. On Friday night, Great Falls defeated the Wyoming team 5-3.
Zach Mese added a goal by scoring 3:04 into the opening period. Craig Buford and Great Falls native Brady Christiaens assisted on the play.
Austin Krantz scored in the second and the third periods. His second period score came six minutes into the middle period with assistance from Dylan Garton and Austin Nottke. Nottke would also get his second assist in the closing minutes of the final period on an empty net goal by Krantz with 1:08 left in regulation.
Great Falls’ defense came up with many stops throughout the night and allowed no goals on five power play opportunities. Erik Powell had one of his better performances of the season by stopping all 39 shots that Gillette sent his way.
Gillette’s Sean Kelley recorded 25 saves in a losing effort.
NEXT CONTEST: Great Falls heads to Whitefish, MT on Friday night (January 10th) to take on the Glacier Nationals before they return to the Great Falls Ice Plex on Saturday, January 11th to face the Billings Bulls. Both games begin at 7:30 PM.
